I Am Iron Man
(no spoilers but if you don't want any preconceived expectation of the movie, don't read)
Josh really is a bit of a cynic when it comes to the Iron Man movie,
simply because we follow the comics and Tony Stark tends to be a bit of
an asshole in the Marvel Civil War. But I felt that the movie stayed
true to the comics by including things like his original design and
it's many variations, it's capabilities, and the fact that Stark can do
whatever he wants.
I'm a huge comic book movie guy, so
when I heard Iron Man was coming out I flipped. Then Josh reminded me
of the great depression in movies as of late, what with the surplus of
poor sequels (I'm lookin at you, Spider Man 3). So I had my doubts, but
as the date neared I got more and more excited and eager to see whether
it would rock or not, and it most definitely did. I loved it, the
action was cool, the story was good, and Stan Lee had his coolest cameo
yet. It was exciting, it was funny, and The Dude from The Big Labowski
(Jeff Bridges) was a bad ass. I was a little worried Robert Downy Jr.
wouldn't live up to the pinnacle of awesome-itude of Tony Stark, simply
because Jr.'s only 5' 4" or something. But they did a good job and he
was quite the bad ass, so kudos to Hollywood for renewing my faith in
comic book movies, and right before the surge of heavy hitters like The
Hulk (no pun intended) and The Dark Knight. I look forward to their
righteousness as well.
